Colman by Carthago presented a young grey boasting exceptional quality and very good movement at the 2015 Neumünster licensing. Catch stood out for his excellent free jumping already during the pre-selection. Catch has the clear rectangular frame so important for a sire. His face and bright eyes reflect his intelligence and balanced temper. His neck is big and ties nicely into the body, with long and well-defined withers with a good connection to a very good back and croup structure. He has very correct legs and well-shaped hooves of suitable size. His very regular movement results from his hindquarters’ excellent ability to carry weight, enabling a particularly powerful canter.
Catch completed the 14-day ability assessment at Neustadt/Dosse at an overall score of 8.30, scoring 9.0 for temperament, character, and willingness to perform and 8.5 for his canter, rideability and jumping ability (free jumping). This season Catch was shown on competition for the first time and could win the Elmshorn State Championship for the 4-year-old jumpers directly under Ebba Johansson. His sire Colman is one of the best sons of exceptional jumping horse sire and top jumper Carthago – ridden by Jos Lansink, the multiple Grand Prix winner competed at the Olympics twice. Colman’s produce includes the highly successful Catwalk (Roger Whitaker) and L.B. Convall, winner of the Aachen Grand Prix 2016 with Philipp Weishaupt.
Catch’s dam line known as “von Horstens stem” has a reputation for particular willingness to perform. His dam Pia competed as show jumper prior to being bred. Results including placings at S level emphasise the dam line’s athleticism and hereditary reliability and definitely confirm the importance of a stallion dam’s own performance in competition.
